This summer AC United Soccer Club will host a tournament in honor of one of our own, Madelyn Young. Maddie is a member of the 2011 AC United Wildcats, as well as a member of the 2011 Union team. Maddie is very much the heart and soul of our team. Her absence is felt everyday as Maddie is not only a fierce and fearless competitor, but is also a supportive and loyal teammate and a leader.

In late January Maddie went to the doctor’s for a knee injury only for doctors to discover a tumor on her femur. Maddie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that begins in the cells that form bones. What made Maddie’s diagnosis all the more heartbreaking is that it came on the heels of her mother’s recent battle with breast cancer.

With the support of her team of doctors, family, friends and teammates Maddie has bravely begun her new journey to beat cancer. Maddie has had successful surgery to remove the bone and continues to receive treatment all with the hope to beat cancer and return to the soccer field with her teammates.
